In spite of his past as an excellent jazz guitarist and an equally excellent tribute to Bob Dylan released on CD with Laura Willeit, Hubert Dorigatti’s musical career has taken a complete different path when the guitarist and singer from Brunico, a town in the Italian Dolomites, has decided to focus on an innovative kind of blues that is worthy of comparison with the best American bluesmen. Still, he’s always kept his music firmly rooted in the blues tradition, which he’s proven to know inside out.

When someone says STOP like he does, you can assume he means exactly the opposite: internationally renowned Blues guitarist and composer Hubert Dorigatti hails from South Tyrol and over the last few years has surprised on several occasions with albums which sound like they come straight from New Orleans or New York, with an authenticity which could easily cause listeners to jump to the wrong conclusions about the origins of the music:
Those who have been following Dorigatti for some time will know that the Blues of South Tyrol is just the same as anywhere else because this style of music is not tied to a specific location – it is more about the person playing it not being halted by what the rest of the world thinks: Don’t STOP!

Der Blues spielt, so wissen diejenigen, die Dorigatti seit längerer Zeit verfolgen, in Südtirol nämlich genauso wie anderswo, weil sich dieser Musikstil nicht an Orte ketten lässt – es kommt vielmehr darauf an, ob der- oder diejenige, der/die ihn spielt, sich nicht davon aufhalten lässt, was der Rest der Welt davon hält: Don’t STOP!

Memphis is in South Tyrol and the devil plays the Blues – what was that again? Oh yes, the devil comes from Bruneck and plays the Blues. That became clear when Hubert Dorigatti won the renowned IBC Blues Challenge and was named the best Italian Blues musician. Now his new CD is out. So if Mephisto is blusey, Memphisto must be the city of hell. It is from this city that Hubert Dorigatti sings his song by the same name, which also forms the title of the CD. It pays homage to Memphis, the real city of the Blues but then there is also the track River City Blues. On this CD, there’s a lot of Blues – that much is clear. The songs tell of taking that last breath of air, of soul searching and of blissful childhood memories – pure Blues.

Eine Hommage an Memphis, die echte Stadt des Blues, gibt es aber auch: River City Blues. Und überhaupt gibt es auf diesem Datenträger viel Blues – ist klar. Die Stücke erzählen vom letzten Atemzug, der Seelensuche oder verklärten Kindheitserinnerungen – Blues eben.
